CHCI (Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute) Announcement: Bilingual Volunteers Needed for Earth Day’s National Day of Service
CHCI is proud to partner with the Earth Day Network to help raise awareness about climate change and request climate change legislation reform from our local leaders.
Please join the Earth Day Network and other advocacy organizations on the National Mall, Washington, D.C., April 25, 2010, from 11:00am – 7:00pm, to celebrate Earth Day’s 40th Anniversary with a day of service. Millions will gather on the nation’s lawn for a cultural eco-friendly event with performances by Willie Colón, Sting, John Legend, The Roots, Joss Stone, Bob Weir, Patrick Stump, Mavis Staples, Passion Pit, Q-Tip, Booker T, and many more.
The Earth Day Network is looking for volunteers for its Latino Outreach Team to help provide bilingual resources and volunteers to interact with visitors and provide information about the importance of environmental awareness for the Latino community. This country was built by immigrants, it will continue to attract and need immigrants. Some people think there are enough people here now -- people have been saying this since the 1700s and it still is not true. They are needed to make up for our aging population and low birthrate. Immigrants often are entrepreneurs, creating jobs. We must help them become Americans and not just people who live here and think of themselves as visitors. When immigrants succeed here, the whole country benefits.
